Good Shepherd Sisters Thailand's History

The Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd is an international congregation of religious women in the Roman Catholic Church, in 73 countries. The Congregation was established in 1835 with the purpose of providing relief to women and girls from the harsh social conditions they faced.

The United Nations recognized Congregation as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in consultative status with ECOSOC because of its important work on behalf of women and children, especially those who live in poverty and are the victims of trafficking, violence, abuse, and discrimination.

In 1965, responding to the invitation of the Redemptorist priests and the Legion of Mary, the Good Shepherd sisters started their mission in Bangkok. At present, there are Shepherd Development Centers in Nongkhai, Pattaya, Chiangrai, Chiengmai, Phuket, and Cambodia (satellite of Thailand).
